What is Aardvark?
Aardvark is an Internet service provider with more than 700 points of presence Australia wide. Aardvark allows you to connect to the Internet quickly and easily.
What does Aardvark offer me?
Aardvark offers you full Internet access in a range of plans to suit your needs. On our Home plan, you can have up to three email addresses as well 20Mb of space for your personal web page. You also get access to our Usenet News Servers, as well as all the usual Internet services such as FTP, Email, UseNet News, World Wide Web, IRC, ICQ, etc...
What is your Modem to user Ratio?
Our modem to user ratio changes and has no set value, we keep a close watch over the system to help avoid any congestion.
Once I have an account, how do I use it?
When you join, we will provide instructions so that your computer can connect to Aardvark. We presently support the Windows 9x, 2k and XP environments, as well as the Macintosh environment, however there is limited support for Aardvark under NT4 and Linux. You will be able to download the Windows software required from the Aardvark system.

What if I need to be connected online for many hours every day?
If you need to be on-line for many hours per day, then you should consider a premium service, dedicated to your needs and usage. It should be noted that our premium service (a dedicated permanent Internet connection service) gives you a far increased quality of service, no max session timeout and no idle timeout and can be utilised at up to 64Kbps. How come my 56k modem is only connected at 49333bps?
High connection speeds for modems rely on very good quality telephone lines. Many telephone lines may be old, poor quality and may be 'noisy' or 'crackly'. If your phone line is of higher quality between your house and your phone exchange, then your connection rate will be higher too, however different modem types and brands and drivers will cause different connection speeds too. For best results, use a good quality external modem.
If I can download at about 5KB/s, then why can't I send at 5KB/s? I can only seem to get 3KB/s uploads.
Due to the way modems work, the maximum upload rate of a modem is 33600bps, however, many modems only upload at around 28800bps, for the same reason as above. If you are using DOV or ISDN then you will get a higher upload speed.
I can check my email but I can't get any web pages up at all, what's wrong?
Check your web browser proxy settings and make sure they are completey empty. Aardvark does not have any proxy servers and any present proxy settings will cause problems for your web browser.
IE Users: click Tools, Internet Options, Connections - and either "settings" or "Lan-settings" or both. All proxy settings within need to be completely blank.
Netscape Users: click Edit, preferences, advanced, proxies, and select "direct connection to the Internet".
What is an 0198 number?
The ACA describes the function and features of the 01983x number range as:
"Prefix of data network access services: Call charge limited to low charge. The call is charged at an untimed local call fee in accordance with the tariff plan provided by your (telephone) service provider"
Note: Call charges will differ if you are accessing this number using an ISDN service.
