Filtering spam email with Aardvark

Take control of your Inbox

As you may have noticed, any Aardvark email which is detected as possibly being spam gets marked in the subject line as "{Spam?}".

This becomes very useful when you set up email filters in your email program.

To make use if this, you can filter these messages to a seperate email folder so you can concentrate on your real messages.

If you use Outlook Express, you can set this up as follows (other mail programs can be set up similarly):

    First, open your Outlook Express.
  1. Right-Click on your Local Folders and select New Folder
  2. Name the folder "spam".
  3. Then click Tools, Message Rules > Mail.
  4. Then click New
  5. In box 1, Tick the second tickbox - "Where the subject contains specific rules".
  6. In box 2, Tick the first tickbox - "move it to the specified folder".
  7. In box 3, click on the blue "contains specific words" and type {Spam?} and click Add, OK.
  8. In box 3, click on the blue "specific (folder)" and select the new "spam" folder, click OK.
  9. In box 4, type in the name of the rule "spam".
  10. Click OK, and OK again.

Next time your receive an email with {Spam?} in the subject line, it will be moved to your new spam folder.

It is best to move it to the spam folder, rather than directly to trash, becasue sometimes real emails can look like spam to our scanners, and get marked as being {Spam?}. By making a sperate spam folder you can check the sender and the subject line before deciding to read the message or trash it immediately.

Also, if you find you are getting spam that is not being detected as spam, you can add other keywords, such as viagra etc, to help the message get sorted to your spam folder.
