ISDN and Data over Voice

All Aardvark Dial-up accounts are compatible with ISDN and DOV.

For example, if you have an Aardvark Business Plus account, or an Aardvark Home account, you can dial into that account using ISDN or DOV at 64 kilobits per second (one "channel"). Similarly, if you have a Multi Connection account or a Multilink Business Plus account, you can dial into your account using ISDN or DOV at 128 kilobits per second (two "channels").

ISDN is slightly faster than standard 56k dialup, the main benefit being that you can connect to the Internet in less than one second. Because ISDN is completely digital and synchronous, you can send and receive data at the same speed. Another feature of ISDN is that your ping, or latency, can be less than half of what you would get from a standard dialup connection.

DOV (Data Over Voice) is a similar ISDN technology which allows you to use the full ISDN speed, yet only pay local voice call fees to connect to the Internet. This can be beneficial if you do not wish to pay the higher ISDN call fees charged by your carrier.

Both ISDN and DOV require you to have an ISDN service installed by your Telephone company. Your Telephone company may have both Business and Home ISDN varieties available.

To run ISDN, you will need an ISDN device. To run DOV, you will need a DOV device. There are products available which can handle both ISDN and DOV in the one unit. Call us for more information.
